‘Bukol’ stories

ALJUR ABRENICA was aware that gay writers at the presscon of “Zaido, Pulis Pangkalawakan” were staring at his crotch as he and co-stars Dennis Trillo and Marky Cielo were wearing skin tight costumes. Since he had the biggest bulge, he got besieged by writers who want to interview him one-on-one.

In the case of Marky, a writer near us remarked: “Ba’t wala siyang bukol? Parang keps ang sa kanya.”

But mind you, Marky is the real lead actor in the show, not Dennis who’s more senior than him. Dennis might play Gallian, the captain of the Galactic Force, but it’s Marky who plays Alexis, the green hero in the original “Shaider” on which “Zaido” is based and the rights of which they bought from the Japanese company-Toei. In “Zaido,” Alexis has the most well-defined character.

He is the son of Lorna Tolentino and the brother of Raymart Santiago and child actor Robert Villar. His dad is a cop, killed mysteriously, so he also becomes a cop, oppressed by the villainous Dion Ignacio in the police force. He is paired with Lovi Poe as Mona, a lady reporter who loves him secretly, and with Kris Bernal.

“Zaido” is GMA7’s big-budgeted outer space adventure series premiering tonight. Zaido is the highest rank of outer space warriors who defeated the universal invasion of Lea-ar, King of the evil Kuuma. Years later, Lea-ar has returned to power. It will now be up to Zaido, Shaider’s descendant to defeat Lea-ar again.

This starts the story of a new generation of “Pulis Pangkalawakan” composed of Dennis, Marky, and Aljur. The three Zaido are trained under the leadership of Commander Zion (Ian de Leon), head of the Galactic Force. Lyka (Karel Marquez), Zion’s daughter who teaches in the academy, falls for Dennis. Marky and Aljur will be rivals over Amy, Kris Bernal, a student from the planet Zendar. The stunning visual effects and stunts in “Zaido” is by Riot Inc. Don’t miss it tonight.
