GMA Network's News and Public Affairs wins gold in New York Festival

GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs has once again brought honor to the country after bagging the Philippines ’ only Gold World Medal at the recently concluded 50th New York Festivals in New York , USA . GMA-7’s flagship public affairs program “I-Witness: The GMA Documentaries” bagged the Gold World Medal for Social Issues and Current Events for Sandra Aguinaldo’s “Boy Pusit” – a documentary focusing on children who catch squids to earn for their education.GMA-7’s sister station, QTV-11, was also given the Bronze World Medal for community service for its public affairs program “At Your Service Star Power” hosted by Iza Calzado.Other GMA Network entries that were awarded certificates as finalists were I-Witness’ “Uuwi na si Udong” for the Social Issues category, “SOP” for the Variety category, and “Starstruck III: The Final Judgment” under the Variety Special Category.Being the first network in the country to win in the New York Festivals, which honors “The World’s Best Work” in news, documentary, information and entertainment programming, GMA-7 has already accumulated a total of ten World Medal Awards.Last year, “Debate” was awarded the Bronze World Medal for Politics. And in 2002, GMA-7’s newscast “Saksi” was given the Gold World Medal for Best Newscast. I-Witness, on the other hand, has already been recognized twice in the past years by the festival.
