ABS-CBN has done something like this before in “Marina,” but of course, there’s nothing like the original mermaid in local showbiz that starred the likes of Edna Luna, Vilma Santos, Eva Montes, Alma Moreno and Alice Dixson. Its last incarnation starred Charlene Gonzales. Now, they say the choices have been narrowed down between Marian Rivera and Rhian Ramos.
Rhian just turned 17 last Wednesday (she spent it more meaningfully with cancer patients instead of having a party) and many folks feel she’s too young to play the half-naked mermaid. “Tanggap kong mas may edge si Marian sa akin in playing Dyesebel because of the big success of ‘Marimar’,” she says. “Anyway, bata pa naman ako and I’m sure there will be other good vehicles that will come my way in the future.”
As for Marian, when asked what she’d like to wear to cover her boobies if she’d play Dyesebel, her reply: “I don’t think it’d be proper for me to wear anything. Bilang sirena, dapat, topless na lang.”
That can only mean she’s getting more daring after she tasted success as Marimar. When Ate Vi did “Dyesebel,” her chest was covered by shells. With Alice Dixson, it’s concealed only by her long extension tresses.
In the meantime, what can Marian say about the woman who claims to be her real mother? “They tell me marami na raw ganyan sa showbiz na kapag may sumikat, nagke-claim na sila ang tunay na magulang. Kilala ko naman who my real mom is, so I can only wish that woman can find the daughter she says she’s long been looking for.”
We’ve seen the woman and she doesn’t in any way look like Marian.
